Eye to Eye is our family-friendly annual fundraising walk, and over the years, several Moorfields staff members have joined patients, their loved ones, and researchers to show their appreciation for Moorfields. Meet the staff below!

Christine Real: Matron of St George’s Satellite

What motivated you to take part in Eye to Eye last year?

I feel a sense of responsibility to give back to our hospital and I believe that I can contribute to a larger positive impact. Moorfields’ Eye to Eye charity walk is a great way to push yourself physically and mentally, brings the staff together and provides the opportunity to connect with others. Let’s not forget the enjoyment of participating in a fun event!”

Can you share a highlight or memorable moment from the event?

We fundraised as part of a team called St George’s Stars.’ Last year was the biggest group we had for years! Everyone felt the accomplishment and pride after completing the walk.”

What would you say to others thinking about signing up this year?

Every step counts and every participant makes a difference. Register now and join us for a fun and rewarding experience!”

Liam Bays: Senior volunteer support officer

What motivated you to take part in Eye to Eye last year?

I was motivated to take part in Eye to Eye as it’s good for us to support our sister charity at the Trust and the objectives of Moorfields Eye Charity. The route was very pleasant to walk, and that added to the interest in doing so.”

Can you share a highlight or memorable moment from the event?

A memorable moment from Eye to Eye was meeting the Moorfields Eye Charity staff and volunteers around the checkpoints throughout the day. They helped me to feel motivated seeing them dotted along the course and that kept spirits up especially towards the end when the tiredness starts to creep in!”

What would you say to others thinking about signing up this year?

Consider signing up. The route is lovely, the volunteers and staff who are supporting the event are super helpful and all the money raised goes towards a great cause.”

Ana Sanchez: Head of electro biomedical engineering

What motivated you to take part in Eye to Eye last year?

It’s such a lovely event! I first took part in Eye to Eye with a few colleagues back in 2017 and always hoped to do it again. Last year, I finally had the chance and this time my partner and friends joined me too. It’s such an uplifting experience to see so many people coming together to support a great cause.”

Can you share a highlight or memorable moment from the event?

Being surrounded by so many enthusiastic supporters and walking through London’s iconic streets wearing our t-shirts with a shared sense of purpose was incredibly special. One of the most memorable moments was how many people in the streets stopped to ask what we were doing and cheered us on. It was so uplifting to explain the cause and feel that encouragement from complete strangers, it really added to the spirit of the day.”

What would you say to others thinking about signing up this year?

Definitely sign up! It’s such a rewarding experience—you’re supporting an amazing cause, meeting wonderful people, and enjoying some of London’s most breathtaking landmarks along the way.”
