On Sunday 20 March, almost 350 supporters came together in the sunshine to help create a future without sight loss. There were patients, their friends and family, staff and researchers all choosing to walk to support Moorfields!

We had two routes, 5 or 15 miles that explored the historic East End of London, included Brick Lane, Victoria Park and Columbia Road. There was so much to see and discover as our walkers pounded the streets of the capital.

In the morning, we welcomed participants into Moorfields Eye Hospital to register them. Once they were in the system, they had the opportunity to enjoy the refreshments. We had delicious fresh pastries with biscuits, hot teas and coffees served and donated by our kind friends at Starbucks from Paternoster Square.

And then off they went! We had people walking in teams, walking solo, walking with their canine companion- it was a wonderful atmosphere and everyone was smiling as they set off in the sunshine.

The finish line was at our Richard Desmond Children’s Eye Centre where walkers were welcomed with claps, cheers and certificates from our enthusiastic welcome team. Inside, they put their feet up whilst enjoying a wide array of refreshments and took some snaps in the photo booth as a lasting reminder of their day.

My Eye to Eye

We also had a virtual option, My Eye to Eye for those who wanted to fundraise closer to home. Between 19-20 March, participants could walk, run or ride their 5 or 15 miles from their own doorsteps. We had people all around the UK taking part from the Kent coast to Eastbourne to Cheltenham!

Our fabulous fundraisers raised over an incredible £94,000 including Gift Aid! Our best year yet.

We had a wonderful day at Eye to Eye and judging by the feedback, so did all those who came out to fundraise over the weekend- the money raised will support eye research, innovation and education to benefit patients at Moorfields Eye Hospital and around the world.

Walking through Shoreditch

Sequinned jackets and furry friends were more than welcome!

To everyone who stepped up to take part, we want to say a huge thank you. We think you are all superstars and loved having you as part of #TeamMoorfields! Registration for Eye to Eye 2023 opens in September.

Don’t forget, if you took part and have any outstanding sponsorship- just get in touch!
