Volunteers are at the very heart of our hospital’s mission.

As soon as you walk through the doors of Moorfields Eye Hospital, there’s always someone there to make you feel welcome. If you are feeling in the least bit worried or apprehensive, there is someone there to answer your questions and to make sure you get to where you need to go. These are the amazing Friends of Moorfields Eye Hospital volunteers.

Now is your chance to support the amazing volunteers, by giving to Moorfields Eye Charity’s volunteers appeal.

The experience of patients and visitors is enriched through the volunteer programme. This appeal will be vital in providing the funds needed to recruit, train, equip and manage volunteers. Your generosity today will help the hospital to continue to go above and beyond.

I have undergone a number of eye surgeries in my life, and it’s not an easy experience. I volunteer so I can help others going through the same thing.

Moorfields, volunteer and patient

Much of the hospital’s care and consultation is happening remotely, and volunteers are playing a key role in co-ordinating these appointments. They’re also providing telephone support to the hospital’s booking centre, talking to patients about their upcoming visits. This means more specialised skills, training and equipment are needed for the volunteers to operate these new roles in a Covid-secure way.

It feels wonderful to be able to help people, especially if they are feeling stressed or anxious. It’s so important that we’re here, especially now due to the pandemic, keeping people safe and reminding them of the new rules.”

Moorfields Eye Hospital is always looking to develop new and better ways to provide the best possible care and treatments for people with sight loss. As the numbers – and roles – of the volunteers continue to expand, your support can play a key role in this effort.

Please donate today – you could help fund the Friends of Moorfields volunteer programme in the coming year, helping us face an uncertain future with confidence.
