We are excited to announce the appointment of Dr Jyotsna Vohra and Kevin McGrath OBE DL to our Grants committee and Oriel committee. Once a new vacancy opens, they will then join our board of trustees (no later than February 2023). Their expertise will help further the charity’s ambitious plans to benefit the patients of Moorfields.

Dr Jyotsna Vohra

Dr Vohra is the Director of Policy and Public Affairs for the Royal Society for Public Health, the world’s oldest public health agency.

She is joining Moorfield’s Eye Charity’s Grants committee, where her broad experience of UK medical research funding and knowledge of impact assessment will further strengthen the charity’s strategic grant-making.

Jyotsna spent seven years at Cancer Research UK as the Head of the Cancer Policy Research Centre. Here she developed the policy and implementation research strategy for that charity.

She has also led a team for the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. She conducted research for best practice in child health and social care across the UK. This included providing guidance to the academic paediatric community.

I wanted to be involved with an organisation that would link to my passion for better health for all and improved quality of life. Eye health is intrinsically linked to quality of life and prevention and treatment of eye disease supports public health too. In addition to the work on the Oriel Centre and the new strategy launched last year, this feels like a really exciting time to be part of MEC.

Kevin McGrath OBE DL

Kevin McGrath OBE DL is the principal of the McGrath Family Office. He has had a long career in commercial property investment and development, culminating as Chairman of Regional REIT Limited and as founder and Executive Chairman of M&M Asset Management LLP.

We have appointed Kevin a member of the charity’s Oriel committee. Oriel is the joint initiative between Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology and Moorfields Eye Charity to create a new world-leading centre for advancing eye health.

Kevin’s experience in property investment and development in London will help the charity to continue to play a leading role with its partners in realising this huge project.

Kevin has served as chair and/or lead property trustee for many charities. These include Lyric Theatre Hammersmith and Guildford School of Acting at Surrey University. He also received an OBE in 2016 in recognition of his services to charities.

I am passionate about public service … utilising my professional, philanthropic and business experience to the benefit of various charities. I have personal family experience, as my son is living with a rare genetic eye disorder and this has driven me to volunteer to work with Moorfields Eye Charity, making the most of my professional skills on the Oriel project … which will be a major step forward in finding new treatments for individuals and in providing support to their families and carers.

Diversifying our future

We are delighted that Jyotsna and Kevin are joining the charity as committee members and in time as full trustees. Attracting people with such strengths and experiences speaks well to our reputation and strategy.

The future appointment of Jyotsna and Kevin will also further diversify our trustee board in line with the targets we have set in this area.
