Leanne Williams and 14 Autoglass colleagues are getting together to raise money for different chosen charities by walking the Yorkshire Three Peaks on the 18th May 2018. Leanne has chosen Moorfields eye charity and she explains why;
“My journey with Moorfields started over 25 years ago. I was born with coloboma’s in both eyes and once I reached 10 years old I began having issues with my sight.
My condition is genetic and had previously skipped every other generation (my father had the condition) so the doctors were puzzled as to why I had the colobomas. Theythen discovered that both my eyes hadn’t developed properly, in particular the right one.
Over the course of the last 25 years Moorfields has taken me through several surgeries from detached retinas (multiple times), squint correction, enucleation, correction of enucleation (multiple times) and corrective surgeries on my false eye socket.
Let’s not forget to mention the hundreds of check-ups I have had over the last 25 years and the amazing service Moorfields Ocular Prosthetics department has provided through a very difficult time.
I was 17 when my right eye died and had to be removed (try being called terminator by school kids and trying to have a social life looking like I just walked out of a horror movie!) However the team at Moorfields took my case and have provided me with three amazing eyes over the last 18 years that match my left perfectly.
The care, attention to detail and the way I have been looked after truly deserves recognition and this is the reason I chose Moorfields as my charity. This is my way of paying it forward and saying thanks for the years of care Moorfields has given and will continue to give as I get old and wrinkly.“
