A generous donation has been received by Moorfields Eye Charity towards the UNITE international eye health research consortium.
On Monday 5 November representatives from Moorfields Eye Charity (MEC) and the National Institute of Health Research Moorfields Biomedical Research Centre (NIHR Moorfields BRC) welcomed Mr Baoan Wang, Founder and President, Mr Bo Wang, Assistant President, and other senior staff from Shaanxi Momentum Qixuehe Pharmaceutical Company to Moorfields Eye Hospital in London to take part in a donation signing ceremony.
The ceremony formally recognised a significant donation from Momentum Pharmaceutical Company to MEC to support ophthalmic research by the Universities and National Institutes Transatlantic Eye Consortium for Human Ocular Immunology (UNITE). Also attending the ceremony were Professor Xinzhe Lan, Deputy Director-General of Shaanxi Province’s Science & Technology Department, and two of the founder members of the consortium, Richard Lee, consultant ophthalmologist at Moorfields Eye Hospital and Lead for Experimental Medicine, Inflammation and Immunotherapy Theme, NIHR Moorfields Biomedical Research Centre and Professor Lai Wei of Zhongshan Ophthalmic Centre.
UNITE is an international collaboration between world-leading organisations for the study of immune-related eye disease, including the US National Eye Institute, Moorfields Eye Hospital and the University of Bristol. The funds will be used by the consortium to support sight-saving research.
Following the ceremony, the delegates met with Professor Sir Peng Tee Khaw, Director of the NIHR Moorfields BRC and Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon, and enjoyed a tour of Moorfields Eye Hospital.
