To mark the 30 year anniversary of her first appointment at Moorfields Eye Hospital, Clare Tunningley and her son James headed off to Tanzania with Classic Challenge to embark on a 400km bike ride, hoping to raise £10,000 in donations.
What an adventure they both had! They cycled through cities and villages in Tanzania alongside the glittering Indian Ocean in temperatures reaching 38 degrees C. Crossing Zanzibar they cycled alongside fields growing spices from turmeric to cinnamon and through tropical forests.
Before they left, Clare donated her tandem to the Susa School in Zanzibar, to a blind student, Hamis. Hamis has to travel a long distance to school every day, so Clare hopes that this gift this will revolutionise his daily life and bring him a sense of fun and freedom. Clare and James, we're very proud of you - you've taken on a fantastic challenge for us and made a real difference to the lives of people with sight loss. A huge well done to you both!
