Your support is changing lives. Our impact report highlights what we’ve achieved over the past year, and the difference your support has made and will continue to make, to the lives of people with sight loss.

Our 2023 impact report

Our new impact report is out now! It highlights the successes of the 2022-23 year and the difference we made with your support.

We believe people’s sight matters

Your support is having an impact on people’s lives: on patients with better sight, and on the work of researchers and clinicians.

Across the last three years, we awarded 160 grants worth a total of £16.8 million to support research, innovation in patient care, staff wellbeing and training at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology.

Thanks to your support, we’ve seen advancements in research we’re funding on corneal disease, how machine learning is transforming treatment of macular degeneration, changes to paediatric pathways working with GPs in the community, and the impact of our innovation grants.

The new guidance is designed to make GPs feel confident to treat children’s eye health problems in the community, bringing better outcomes for children, and with the experts at Moorfields focusing on children with complex eye health needs.

We continue to fund researchers at different stages of their careers. We’re very proud of their achievements with advances in research and prestigious roles in the scientific community.

It was also a year of major Oriel milestones with more philanthropic commitments, NHS and government final approval and signing of contracts with developers Bouygues UK who are preparing for construction later this year.

Our impact on people

Moorfields Eye Hospital and the charity’s support mean so much to so many patients and their families and friends. We’re proud to help bring quicker diagnoses and new treatments to people with sight loss - changing lives in the UK and worldwide.

I support the charity so that it can do more to support innovation because I have received such great care from Moorfields.
