Lydia Beard: running the Royal Parks Half for Moorfields
7 January 2020
Lydia’s husband has been receiving treatment at Moorfields for over 45 years. She ran a sponsored half marathon to say thank you.
Lydia decided to raise money for Moorfields because she knows many people who benefit from the hospital’s care and expertise.
“Moorfields Eye Charity is a charity close to my heart,” she says. “My husband is an outpatient at Moorfields Eye Hospital and has received treatment over the last 45 years. Many of my friends, clients and other family members have had the need to visit Moorfields too.”
The ground-breaking treatment they offer is phenomenal and they are dedicated to providing world class care to millions of people. You don’t realise how precious your sight is until you begin to experience problems.
The run
On (a very rainy!) Sunday 14 October, Lydia set off to run the Royal Parks Half Marathon. Lydia was not put off by the bad weather and crossed the finish line with a smile on her face.
It was her fifth half marathon in 2018 and she completed it in an impressive 2 hours and 4 minutes!
She also managed to raise over £700 for Moorfields, and was excited to support the work of the hospital.
“The money I’m raising (plus hundreds of other people who raise money for Moorfields Eye Charity) goes a long way into researching treatments,” she explains. “Investing in state of the art equipment and educating the researchers and clinicians of tomorrow.”
Well done, Lydia!
