Wherever you are, you can walk Eye to Eye 2021 to support Moorfields and to create a future without sight loss. By taking on the challenge, you’ll be making a difference to the lives of the researchers, staff and patients of Moorfields Eye Hospital and its academic partner, the UCL Institute of Ophthalmogy.

Eye to Eye is our annual fundraising walk where supporters of Moorfields come together to walk four or 14 miles around London. However, we recognise things are a little different this year. Perhaps you don’t feel comfortable travelling, London might be too far away for you or perhaps you just can’t make the date. We want to give you the opportunity to show your love for Moorfields by offering you the chance to walk no matter where you are.

I decided to walk Eye to Eye for the first time in 2016 in order to thank Moorfields for the excellent care I had received (by that point I’d had five retinal reattachment operations, three of which were performed at Moorfields), and also because it was something positive I could do in an attempt to help other people affected by sight loss.

Your safety

Please be assured your health and safety is paramount to us and we ask that you refer to the latest government guidelines regarding Covid-19 closer to your chosen day. If you have any particular concerns, please get in touch so we can support you to create a safe Eye to Eye.

You can do your walk locally starting on your own doorstep or perhaps at your favourite beach or national park. Pick either four or 14 miles and plan your route in advance so you can walk safely and confidently on the day. You can walk solo, with the dog or why not create a team with your colleagues, friends or family?

Choose to do your walk on any day between 14-28 March 2021. For safety reasons, we ask that you do your walk during day light hours. Track your walk on your phone and send us a picture or use Strava, and we will send you your well earned medal at the end.

How we can support your fundraising:

We ask all our adult walkers to raise £100 minimum in sponsorship for taking on this epic walking challenge and are here to support you every step of the way to make your fundraising a success.

  • We will send you an Eye to Eye t-shirt to wear on the day
  • We will email you with guidance on how to plan your walk
  • All walkers will have access to our Eye to Eye Facebook event community where you can chat with other Moorfields supporters and keep up to date with the latest updates and gossip
  • You’ll get emailed newsletters sending you regular motivation and fundraising tips
  • We can offer guidance on how to set up your Just Giving fundraising page and how to share it with your loved ones

You can now link a Strava account to your Just Giving page so you automatically share your fitness tracking, training pictures, maps and miles to your fundraising page and show your loved ones how committed you are in the run up to your big day.

Please tag us in any of your social media posts using #TeamMoorfields and #EyetoEye and be sure to follow us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram- we will re-share the best ones.
