Our 2019 impact report
Our 2019 impact report highlights the successes of the 2018-19 year and the difference we made with your support.
Our mission in 2019: supporting Moorfields to discover, develop and deliver the best eye care
In 2018-19 we awarded 101 grants worth a total of £2.78m to support research, training and patient care at Moorfields Eye Hospital and the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology. We’ve bought state-of-the-art equipment, supported staff wellbeing, and given grants to train tomorrow’s experts.
We’ve also seen breakthroughs across many conditions. This impact report focuses on diagnostics and treatments for glaucoma, and artificial intelligence (AI) projects which could have far-reaching impact.
We’re proud to be funding world-class research and training, and supporting patient care with new equipment and innovative services. We can’t thank our supporters enough for giving people a renewed quality of life, not only in the UK but around the world.
Robert Dufton, chief executive, Moorfields Eye Charity
Our vision in 2019: creating a new world-class centre for eye health
Along with our partners, we made great progress last year in realising our ambitious plans for Oriel – the proposed new, state-of-the-art integrated treatment, research and education centre in King’s Cross, planned to open in 2026.
It’s really exciting to see our vision for Oriel start to come together. We’ve got a long way to go, but now we’re a step closer to our goal of bringing research, education and care together into a world-leading centre of excellence for eye health.
Rachel Jones, director of development, Moorfields Eye Charity
Our core belief in 2019: people’s sight matters
We’ve seen over 800,000 patient go through the doors of Moorfields Eye Hospital over the course of the year to receive world-class eye care, supported by our investments in research, education and clinical care.
I used to wonder at the end of each day if I’d be able to see in the morning but Moorfields has given me hope, confidence and turned my life around.
Elaine Manna, Moorfields patient and Moorfields Eye Charity supporter
We’ve achieved a lot this year, but it’s all thanks to our supporters, who make our work possible.
Across the year we had the support of over 10,000 incredible event participants and donors who helped us make a difference to the lives of people with sight loss.
Thank you for your support.
